More inking, a little stamping magic, and a contest.....

So I wanted to make a friend for my little Winking Reindeer. I used a some stamping sleight of hand...it's my little secret. I may be persuaded to share my secret though. Leave a comment and tell me how you think I made a mirror image of my sweet reindeer.....
Just a little hint....I didn't use a mirror image stamp or any other special tool (other than a stamp  positioner) for this. Let's hear what you think! I have a cling Hanging Christmas Ornament Stamp for whoever guesses correctly first!
I am entering this in Lucy's Challenge to make a card with something old and something new. My new is the Cosmo Cricket Mitten Weather paper that is pieced for the reindeer. My old, and it's really old, it's the Glamour Dust Glitter that I used on the antlers and the snow drift. It's more than 10 years old. Special thanks to my sweet friend Barb for sending me the Basic Grey stitched brad. It's from the Kioshi collection but I thought the flower looked like a poinsettia and the color went so well with this card.

John 8:31-32 ~ "Jesus said to the people who believed in Him, 'you are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.' "

  1. You stamped one on the wrong side of the paper and cut it out, then traced around the edge with a black marker?

  2. you stamped on the plain side of a piece of patterend paper, cut it out, flipped it over, drew in the eyes.

it's so wonderful! i love this nancy! so festive and sparkly!

  3. With one being lighter I'm wondering if it was some kind of transfer???? Eagerly awaiting the answer.

  4. The other two lovely ladies already guessed it, but I must say this is the most wonderful card! Love the beautiful purple shades, the gorgeous sparkle, all the fun snowflakes and of course your adorable duo of reindeer! Thank you for the inspiration, Nancy!

  5. I think that you stamped it on patterned paper that is reversible and just flipped it the other way. If you were using another tool you could use a rubber brayer and get the same effect.

  6. You used the stamp positioner AS a mirror image stamp? Stamped on it and flipped it over onto your paper?

  7. Did you stamp on vellum...then colored?

  8. I would have guessed a lightbox after stamping on the wrong side, or using double-sided paper, but you said no special gimics....hmmmmmm.

Anyway, I LOVE it! The glitter and the snowflakes and the unusual colors all make for a very special card! Well done, Nancy!

  9. Did you stamp, scan and then use a print shop to reverse the image? However you did it, what an adorable couple!!

  10. I am wondering if you stamped the mirror image on a piece of acetate and flipped it over? Any way you did it, this is a great image!!

  11. Lovely card! I always use the acetate and back with the PP and I see Judy already guessed that! Beautiful pair of deer!

  12. Wonderful card Nancy.... I too am of the thought that you stamped it on the wrong side of the paper and cut out - but not so sure how you matched up the antlers!!! What ever you did it looks spectacular.

  13. just wanted to say...this is an adorable card!

  14. Stamp on the plastic then flip it over and stamp with the plastic on the paper. :) That's how I do it, wonderful trick. Sometimes you have to darken the image with a black marker and if you had to do that with those antlers kudos to you!! Super cute card!

  15. I wouldn't have a clue! What a magical card Nancy - just love your creative scene here!

  16. If it's me, I'd stamped on the back side of the patterned paper, cut it & traced theline with black pen. Can't wait to hear the actual process. :)

  17. My guess is the same as Vera's...hm...very intriguing!! However you did it, you did a VERY beautiful job!! Love the pairing and design! Blessings to you ,my friend!

  18. This is just absolutely amazing, my friend! I have no idea how you did it, even after reading a few of the above comments, it would be great to physically see it in person! The colors on this is making me yearn for a beautiful lavender tree now...can you imagine a light colored purple tree, maybe with a splash of winter white? I think that would be beautiful!

  19. Kiss stamping? Stamping onto a flat piece of rubber then transferring it as a mirror image.

  20. This is sooo cute!! I know if you cut it out on the backside you wouldnt have got your antlers so you may have stamped on a piece of rubber then transfered it. :) :) :)

  21. Exactly what Sarah said. You stamped it on your stamp positioned sheet then flipped it over onto the patterned paper. Genius!!!!

  22. This is so darn cute Nancy! Love it! I'm guessing you cut out the stamped image, turned it over and traced around it with a black marker.

  23. Love, love, love this! This "reindeer with an attitude" (as Judy calls it!) is my fave and to see it as a twin is fabulous!! Did you use acetate? Vellum?

  24. Love the purple reindeer!! As for what you did, my guess is that you stamped the image on the back side of some patterned paper, cur it out, then outlined the image in black marker and added the eyelash. Very cute.

  25. Okay something different to guess. I think you stamped it scanned it on your computer and than flipped it there? I read all the other guesses and those would be mine!!! :> It's gorgeous!

  26. I think you stamped it on an acrylic block, 'huffed' to keep the ink wet, then used the block as your stamp to get a mirror image...
Can't wait to hear what you really did! Adorable card:)

  27. sweet card, nancy... it looks like you did mirror image stamping on your card (stamping the image on to a flat piece of rubber and then stamping onto your paper).

    ReplyDelete
  28. I think you stamped it on stamp positioner sheet and flipped it over onto your paper. I at first thought you might have used the mirror image stamp, but you said no!! No matter how you made it, it is wonderful and I love the colors.

  29. Last month I did this to my reindeer too. I stamped it on a white cardstock and reverse the card and drew the outline with a black marker to create the reverse effect. Take a look at mine http://walchowdesign.blogspot.com/2010/10/2x-reindeers.html

Anyway, I love this card and the soft pastel colours!

  30. I'd say you scanned your stamped image and flipped it in Photoshop or other program and worked on the color to tone it down. But what buggers me is the antlers: not sure how long it would take to cut those out! OR you stamped it on a very thin paper, flipped it and drew through it patiently to transfer the image... Anyway, there's some flipping involved! :) And your card is magical! Love it tons! Hugs!

  31. I'm going to go with vellum, although I have no idea and can't wait to hear your magic secret! :)

    ReplyDelete
  32. I've got to say you stamped it with a very wet ink onto something slick and then laid your paper on top of it or just stamped it on a thin paper and cut it out on a light box or window...but I think these are already guessed ideas. Love the card!!

    ReplyDelete
  33. I'm thinking that you stamped on vellum and flipped it but I think that is already guessed...can't wait until you reveal your secret :) This is a wonderful card! Love the way they are facing one another...and all the sparkle and bling - love it!

  34. ok. at first I thought the same as above and you stamped on acetate and then flipped it over pressed down to get the ink off the acetate and onto the paper...

but maybe you used the stamp positioner plastic 'card' bit to do the same thing?!

  35. Ooops, meant to tell you I've signed up to follow...I thought I had but didn't see myself as one of your followers...looking forward to the tutorial :)

  36. A great card. Was the image stamped on an acrylic block and the block stamped on the card?

  37. What fun Nancy, love your sweet card, I think I am with some of the other girls on this one. My thoughts are that you used double sided pp and stamped them both, on the other side, redrew with a black marker around the reindeer and also the winking eye. Well at least that is what I think you did...LOL

ok - so perhaps you stamps the reverse antler on the plastic while quicking transfering your image. Any area that wasn't perfect you could touch up by hand. Glitter would hide any imperfections as well. The body of the reindeer could have been stamped on the reverse side and cut out. It is a wonderful card. No one or deer should have to stand alone during the holidays.

  39. Adorable card, love how you added the flower to the lady :o)
Was it done digitally? I am am excited to hear - imagine the possibilities.

  40. I thought you might have tried the method with the cut and dry foam? I have done this method before and also done the tracihg method with a light box.
I can't wait to see how you did it.

  41. Guess I Should use spell check first!!

The word in my previous post should have been (tracing) sorry!!

    ReplyDelete
  42. I like all the guesses and cannot image that none of them were right. You could have used the lightbox and traced the deer onto the back of the card and turned it over, draw in the eye and outlined it.

I can't wait until you unveil the secret!

  43. Ok, now you have really got me thinking. I can't believe that all of these guesses are not correct. I may not sleep tonite! Beautiful card and colors.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Adorable card, Nancy! I love all the details and sparkle in this fantastic scene! If none of the guesses above are correct I really don't know how you did it!! Can't wait to find out!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Did you stamp it on one side of the paper with a wet ink or versamark and then just folded the other side of the paper over the top to get a rough outline - that would give a mirror image?

    ReplyDelete
  46. Wow this is gorgeous Nancy! Love the mirrored reindeer! My guess is you stamped onto double sided PP and then turned it over and traced around it with a black marker :)

    ReplyDelete
  47. I love this deer, and the card too!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Love this card, but can't figure out how you did it if you didn't use any of the techniques suggested above...
Maybe it's very thin paper and ink that really seeps through the paper?

Anyway, keep us updated, I'm really curious!

  49. What a beautiful card! I'm thinking you stamped the image on lighter paper and then stamped it again, then flipped it. (??????got me guessin').

    ReplyDelete
  50. Your card is fantastic! I am guessing that you fold a paper over, stamp image on one side, but cut through both half of the paper so you'd get the mirror image (like doing half of a heart on a folded paper to get a full one). Retrace outline and antler with marker. Then dress up! But regardless the method, the outcome is amazing!

    ReplyDelete
  51. Don't know if someone suggested this, but I think you stamped it on an acrylic block (or something similar) and then transfered the newly inked image on you paper
