'tis the season?

I don't normally get in the Christmas mood until well into December. That means I have to really try to be festive in order to get cards done for the challenges that always happen much earlier. For today's card I used all the same stamps, dies, embossing folder and patterned papers (Snow Day by Crate Paper) as my first Christmas card; so it's the same, but different.

I gold embossed snowflakes on 2 of the trees and used sparkly Gelly Roll pens to doodle on the other trees.

No, it's not a color challenge....

.....just my colorful foot !

So, you are really gonna get a good laugh about this story. Last week Digby was finally feeling better and had lots of energy so we went to the back yard to play some fetch. He brought his favorite Orka toy. It's a heavy rubber toy that resembles a jack and it bounces all over the place. My big boy loves chasing his Orka and bringing it back and leaving it at my feet to go again. Usually he just sets it on the ground but this day he was especially energetic and he was throwing it back to me (I'm sure you know where this is going but I'll spell it out anyway)

I was checking out my roses when he came bounding back and dropped the toy on my right foot. It hurt initially but I didn't realize anything was really wrong until several hours later I noticed a large goose-egg on the top of my foot.  I iced it and didn't think anything of it because it still didn't hurt too badly. Well it's been a week and it still looks like this:

I suspect it may be broken. The irony is that since the veterinary hospital has all my money my injury will need to heal on it's own. I'm sure there's a moral to this story, I'd love to hear your theories...and feel free to use my festive foot as color inspiration :)

First Christmas Card for 2012

I saw a video on the Simon Says Stamp blog by Kristina Werner in which she painted with Perfect Pearls and it reminded me of a card I did using a similar technique. Here's the link to that card: Playing with Perfect Pearls.

I decided to paint some white card stock with Perfect Pearls powder mixed with water. Then I stamped and die cut some trees on the pearly card stock. There is quite a nice little shine on those trees IRL.
I think I'll enter this in the current Hero Arts Challenge, it's been a while since I did one.

I used some older patterned paper, Snow Day from Crate Paper, but it made the perfect base for my trees.
There's a variety of stamps on the trees: Music Background by Penny Black, La Letter by Hero Arts and Interlocking Backdrops by Lawn Fawn.

It may be Fall elsewhere....

....but when the thermometer is reading 97 degrees it still feels like summer here. I made a couple of cards yesterday that I'm hoping are season-less but they are looking pretty summery.

For this first one, I was inspired by a card I saw in the new Paper Crafts magazine, using some fabric tape, washi tape and tissue tape. I've still got the Jar of Sunshine stamp set by Unity out on the desk so it got used along with another great Stampendous Bible verse stamp. I found the polka dot paper tape at Target.

This card has a sentiment from Jar of Sunshine and uses some paper from the Simple Stories Summer Fresh 6x6 pad. Lawn Trimmings twine from the Vivid triple pack is the finishing touch.

So it's been tag team doggy vet visits around here lately. Anybody know of a dog and pony show that needs a couple dogs? I'm buried in vet bills and they need to start earning their keep.

Digby is doing much better after his month of weekly Lime baths, he stinks of rotten eggs but all his skin issues have been fixed. He is taking thyroid meds for the rest of his life but they are working so it's worth it.
He's at the vet today for a good smelling bath!! I can't wait.

Tia on the other hand just couldn't let Digs have all the attention. We came home Saturday evening from a lovely BBQ at Mike and Kelly's to find Tia burning up with fever. We took her to the emergency vet at 2 am when we couldn't get her temp to come down. After telling us her temp was 104.7 they did absolutely nothing and sent us home. By 9:00 am Sunday morning I had her at our vet where they began IV fluids and antibiotics. That evening she was sent home to rest with a normal temp. I took her back Monday for an ultrasound of her belly and to have 2 teeth pulled. She got a full dental cleaning and a mani-pedi while she was there. She will be on meds for her liver at least for the next year. She was so cute wandering around the house trying to shake off the anesthesia and now she's almost back to her sassy self. I love my vet, but I've been spending way too much time there lately.
